Fort Ward Museum and Historic Site
Located on 4301 W Braddock Rd, Alexandria, VA 22304. The Fort Ward Museum and Historic Site provides visitors with a look at the history of the American Civil War and the Union Army. The site is operated by the National Park Service and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It includes a museum and a library that rotates exhibitions. In addition, the museum has special events.
The museum features exhibits that interpret the battles of the American Civil War. The museum also features Civil War artifacts, including weapons, and provides visitors with information about the quality of life for black Americans before and after the Civil War. The museum also features living history reenactments.
The Museum is located on the grounds of Fort Ward, which was the fifth largest fort constructed during the American Civil War. It was also the site of the first Union naval officer to die in the war. The fort was a model for military engineering. It included platforms for 24 guns, and a 100 lb Parrott gun. Throughout the fort’s history, many African-Americans lived at the fort. The Parris Island Museum also features Charlesfort-Santa Elena National Historic Landmark, which is located in the former Parris Island Marine Corps depot.
Visitors can also learn about the lives of American presidents. The site is part of the National Park Service’s Discover Our Shared Heritage Travel Itinerary, which explores historic places associated with the lives of American presidents. Visitors can also take a tour of the Campaign for Corinth, which features museums and other Civil War sites. The museum and the tour are both sponsored by the Corinth Area Convention & Visitors Bureau. They also provide visitor information, including accommodations and Washington County attractions.
